Introducing Surrey Swans

Surrey Swans provides a place where trans people and their partners, friends and families can meet socially.

We normally meet on the last Sunday of each month.

The exception to this is December when the meeting is normally held on the second Sunday of December.

Click here for information on meetings in 2024.

We meet at THE LION BREWERY, 104 Guildford Road, Ash, Surrey, GU12 6BT.

The meetings are in a separate room that has it's own entrance so it's well suited to anyone that feels a bit nervous about taking those first steps.

It is possible to get changed and put on makeup in privacy at the pub.

The Facebook page of the Lion Brewery is: https://www.facebook.com/lionbreweryash

Here's a picture of the car park at the Lion Brewery.

I've added a red arrow that points to a gateway towards the right hand side of the pub as you look at it from the car park. You head through the gate and turn left and the room we meet in is straight ahead.

The group has no official membership list. The people that attend the meetings vary quite a bit each month. There are those that are regulars and others that turn up just once in a while.

There are many people who's first venture into the outside world as their true self  has been to pay a visit to Surrey Swans and newcomers are always welcome.

People begin arriving at round about 7:30 pm and generally stay until somewhere between 10:00 pm and 10:30 pm.

There's an attendance fee of £3 per person. The aim of this is to cover the costs of using the room and also subsidise the cost of events that are organised from time to time.

Occasionally there is a raffle or a quiz of some kind. The purchase of raffle tickets is entirely optional ... but if you don't buy a ticket you won't win any prizes. Income from the raffle is also used to subsidise the cost of events.

Food is available ... typical pub kind of food.

Often times there is nothing in particular organised. People sit and chat about anything and everything.

Occasionally there is a theme evening. We've also had demonstrations on how best to apply eye makeup, wig styling, an Anne Summers evening, a visit from Surrey Police and a visit from a film crew.

Although Surrey Swans isn't specifically organised as a help group ... just talking with other people that are in similar circumstances can be of great help. There are always people around that are happy to listen and offer help where they can.

If you're interested in knowing more about Surrey Swans or transgender issues in general - or maybe would like to come along sometime - then email SurreySwans@hotmail.co.uk or Andrea.Wright@hotmail.co.uk for more information. We'd love to hear from you.
